National Stress Awareness Month, Telehealth, and the COVID-19 Pandemic

What a time to be in, considering April is National Stress Awareness Month, and we are in the middle of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The pandemic in and of itself is enough to cause understandable stress. When you think of everything that effects each and every one of us on a day to day basis; finances, children, spouses, family, and our own day to day emotions, it is no surprise that something unexpected, uncertain, and unknown would cause further stress.

Stress causes a natural, subconscious reaction within our bodies, which can look differently from person to person. Sometimes stress presents itself in physical reactions, such as an increase in headaches or stomach aches, poor sleep, and/or feeling a tightness or tenseness in our bodies. Stress is also bound to affect our mood. At times, this can be an increase in irritability, sadness, and/or anxiety. Although stress presents itself differently, it affects all of us no matter how old we are.

Stress During The COVID-19 Pandemic:

Stress specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic, can become complex and be seemingly different. For some of us, it is the first time we have been home with our spouse for this long, had to teach our own kids 4th grade math, been forced to stay indoors, or experienced the empty shelves at the grocery stores. We are in a time of uncertainty, a time of unknown, a time of newness. Furthermore, we as the mental health professionals are in this along with you.

Telehealth Counseling Services:

At Calming Waters Counseling Services we have always striven to provide the best, highest quality of services and therefore, have switched to remotely telehealth given the current pandemic. Telehealth, allows more access to care, can improve client engagement, and can improve client satisfaction. Our current clients will say that telehealth is different, but in a time like this, they are grateful we were able to make the switch and continue services without interruption. If there is a time to work together, this is the time. Calming Waters Counseling Services offers individual sessions for children, adolescents, and adults, couple sessions, and family sessions. We offer a large variety of specialties and techniques.
